F5 Solutions Enable Government Organizations to Meet 2009 DNSSEC Compliance Requirements -- Unique new dynamic security policies for BIG-IP ensure that U.S. government agencies and partners provide mandated DNS Security for web-based applications

SEATTLE, DECEMBER 7, 2009 – F5 Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the global leader in Application Delivery Networking (ADN), today announced that the BIG-IP® Global Traffic Manager™ (GTM™) Application Delivery Controller will provide U.S. government agencies and partners with the most trusted real-time DNS Security solution available. By implementing a unique dynamic security Relevant Products/Services signing policy, BIG-IP GTM protects customers' DNS infrastructures against various attacks and ensures that organizations can meet the mandated DNSSEC 2009 compliance Relevant Products/Services requirements, while reducing their management Relevant Products/Services costs and maintaining the intelligent flexibility of dynamic DNS solutions.

"The complexity of DNSSEC, particularly key management issues, will slow its adoption in many networks," said Lawrence Orans, Research Director, Gartner, Inc. "Some organizations, like those that must comply with the OMB mandate, have no choice-they must move quickly to adopt DNSSEC. Commercial enterprises will move more slowly, but all organizations should begin to master the DNSSEC learning curve now, and demand tools from their equipment providers and service providers to ease the transition to DNSSEC."

"As federal agencies turn to web-based applications to conduct business, they are under tremendous pressure to not only provide these services, but to protect against DNS attacks and comply with recent DNS Security mandates," said Jason Needham, Sr. Director of Product Management at F5. "BIG-IP GTM will enable these organizations to meet these security requirements while ensuring application availability and performance."

Key DNSSEC features for BIG-IP GTM enable organizations to:

    • Meet compliance mandates for DNSSEC by the 2009 federal deadline

    • Sign DNS responses in real time and provide the means to deploy DNSSEC quickly and
    easily in an existing environment

    • Determine accurately where a user is based on their IP address

    • Provide the capability to sign the DNS responses to protect against rogue DNS servers

    • Ensure that end-users receive correct web responses

BIG-IP supports DNSSEC as an add-on feature to GTM (available as a standalone device or as a module on BIG-IP® Local Traffic Manager™). BIG-IP GTM is a global server load balancer that provides high availability, maximum performance, and centralized management for applications running across multiple and globally dispersed data Relevant Products/Services centers. BIG-IP GTM distributes end-user application requests according to business policies and data center and network Relevant Products/Services conditions to ensure the highest possible availability.
