Manchester, N.H.-based companies Dyn and Renesys are coming together to offer a new breed of Internet performance. Dyn is acquiring the Internet intelligence Relevant Products/Services firm for an undisclosed sum.

Let’s take a closer look at what the combination really means. For its part, Dyn is recognized name in Internet performance solutions. The company is acquiring an authority on Internet intelligence.

After the merger, Dyn will launch a new Performance Assurance product line that promises insights to help customers “make instant, intelligent decisions to improve the performance of their Internet enabled applications.” The Performance Assurance solutions will be offered independent of the company’s Traffic Management and Message Management services.

“Renesys’ global and granular visibility into the Internet will allow us to make better traffic and message decisions, helping our customers more efficiently connect with their audiences,” said Jeremy Hitchcock, Dyn CEO. “Our new Performance Assurance product line will help businesses optimize Relevant Products/Services their Internet and cloud Relevant Products/Services network Relevant Products/Services performance, in a world where any downtime or milliseconds of delay can have a real business Relevant Products/Services impact.”

Five Key Areas of Impact

Dyn Performance Assurance will tap into Renesys data Relevant Products/Services, which is collected from a global sensor network of real-time Relevant Products/Services probes, as well as business relationships with more than 300 providers and telemetry from Dyn’s own network. That resource mashup promises to offer businesses insights that will drive smart decisions for network planning, traffic management, CDN (content delivery network) optimization, cloud optimization, and data center Relevant Products/Services optimization.

Practically speaking, companies can integrate Dyn’s Performance Assurance services into operational workflows and expect to draw out real-time intelligence of how Internet changes are affecting their businesses. Armed with that information, they can make adjustments to how consumers connect to their brands to optimize the online customer Relevant Products/Services experience.

“Monitoring application and service performance was difficult even when enterprises owned the entire IT Relevant Products/Services stack, from servers and applications to the network,” said Robert Mahowald, program vice president at IDC. “As enterprises move business-critical workloads into public clouds, visibility and control over . . . these services becomes exponentially more challenging. This makes performance assurance technology such as Renesys an essential component for optimizing cloud service delivery.”

Getting What You Pay For

Renesys also brings strategic talent to Dyn’s table. Specifically, Renesys’ team includes specialized scientists, researchers and analysts who have been monitoring the state of the Internet around the clock for more than 10 years.

We caught up with Rob Enderle, principal analyst at The Enderle Group, to get his take on the acquisition. He told us companies pay a great deal of money for better performance and Dyn is creating a suite of products to comprehensively analyze whether firms are getting what they pay for -- or need to change programs or providers to get the performance the business requires.

“The advantage of a comprehensive offering is that it embraces the total problem and makes it less likely the firm will be displaced by another company that first plugs a hole and then does what Dyn does,” Enderle said. “In effect, the first with complete solution wins. Dyn is acquiring Renesys to make sure they can both effectively defend and attack Relevant Products/Services less comprehensive offerings in their chosen segment.”
