Amazon is making it easier for shoppers to discover and learn about wearable devices by launching a new section on its website dedicated to these type of gadgets.

The Amazon Wearable Technology store went live Tuesday, giving customers a one-stop shop to compare and learn about the various fitness trackers, wearable cameras and smartwatches that are available for purchase on Amazon.com.

"Wearable technology is an exciting category with rapid innovation and our customers are increasingly coming to Amazon to shop and learn about these devices," John Nemeth, Amazon director of wireless and mobile electronics, said in a statement. "We're thrilled to bring our customers a store with the largest selection and great prices that helps eliminate the guesswork when deciding which wearable devices best fit their needs."

In the store, customers will find featured products and brands and an Editor's Corner where they can find the latest news about wearable devices. The Wearable Technology section also includes a Learning Center and Video Library, both of which contain content designed to help shoppers compare gadgets.

Among the brands included in the new Amazon store are Samsung, GoPro, Jawbone, Fitbit, Pebble and several others.

"While wearable technology has been available for nearly a decade, the category has only recently captured the imagination of customers with the introduction of new, exciting products like smart watches, activity trackers and wearable cameras," Amazon said in a statement.

Among tech giants working on wearable devices is Samsung, which this month released two smartwatches and an activity tracker.

Google is developing software Relevant Products/Services for smartwatches, which Motorola and LG have said they will use in smartwatches that will probably go on sale this year. Google has also built an "explorer" version of Glass, its smartglasses, and it has also announced that it is working on smart contact lenses.

Apple, meanwhile, is heavily believed to be developing an "iWatch" smartwatch.
