As expected, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy NotePro and TabPro line of tablets at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. There are four devices in the lineup: the 12.2-inch NotePro and the 12.2-inch, 10.1-inch and 8.4-inch TabPro.
JK Shin, CEO and president of Samsung Electronics' IT and Mobile division, said the company created the new devices to kick off a year in which the brand "truly establishes its leadership" in the tablet market. Apple may have something to say about that. Still, Samsung is taking another big swing.
"This new line offers the best-in-class content consumption and productivity, combining a stunning viewing experience with Samsung's design legacy," Shin said. "The Samsung Galaxy NotePro and TabPro truly demonstrate our commitment to providing our customers with extraordinarily versatile product offerings, tailored to tablet users of every description."
For Content Consumers
Samsung said the Galaxy NotePro and TabPro series was created to satisfy "every possible type of user case scenario." For example, the NotePro and TabPro present what Samsung claims is the world's first 12.2-inch WQXGA widescreen (16:10) tablet display, offering 2560x1600 resolution with more than 4 million pixels. That may make the devices attractive for picky content creators and consumers.
With a larger viewing area, Samsung said the defined screen allows users to take advantage of full HD video play and view additional information at a glance. The new devices also have been designed with a light, slim frame that is designed for high portability.
Here's an example of one of the unique experiences the Galaxy NotePro and TabPro series offers: A personalized Magazine UX, specifically optimized for a large screen, allows users to tailor their Galaxy tablet experience for their own needs.
The UX enables users to organize their favorite content in a dashboard with automatic feed or news updates and then quickly access the most frequently used apps for a more comfortable reading experience. By choosing screen size that is more comparable to traditional magazine-sized material, Samsung said content is easier to view in its original format when reading digital magazines or e-books.
Blending Personal and Professional Lives
The Samsung Galaxy NotePro and 12.2-inch TabPro come equipped with productivity tools to help users manage their personal and professional lives. Multi Window, for example, lets users split the screen up into four different windows. and an innovative. Virtual Keyboard works to give users enough space to type comfortably, leveraging haptic feedback to produce a more realistic typing experience.
Samsung said the S Pen that's included with the Galaxy NotePro delivers a more responsive, productive and overall efficient tablet experience with access to features such as Action Memo, Scrapbook, Screen Write and S Finder. And Pen Window lets users draw a window of any size on the screen, and instantly access unique in-application features such as YouTube or a calculator.
Users can also access and control their home or office PC directly through their Galaxy NotePro or TabPro with Remote PC in order to seamlessly edit and save files remotely. The devices come pre-loaded with Cisco WebEx Meetings platform, and Samsung e-Meeting offers collaboration capabilities by giving users the ability to share content during a meeting without having to access a central server or network.
The Samsung Galaxy NotePro and TabPro tablet line will be offered globally and will be available starting in the first quarter of 2014. Pricing on the devices was not released.
